Samson Staffy

Samson is a one-year-old, male Staffordshire Bull Terrier, who came to The Mayhew because his owner felt they could not train him. He is very friendly towards people he knows and very affectionate, loving his cuddles and sitting on your lap, and hating to be ignored. He can be a little timid towards strangers. He is good with cats and gets along well with other dogs when out and about, though we would prefer to find him a home where he will be an only dog as he can be protective of his toys and food around other dogs. He is fine with people, and though he has a general dislike of toddlers, we would be happy to home him with teenagers and upwards.

Samson knows basic commands but doesn't always listen, he hasn't been toilet-trained and does not yet know how to walk nicely on his lead. He also still puppy mouths and tugs at people's clothes, so he will need to be taught that this is not acceptable at his age. He can be destructive when left alone. His new owner should have owned bull breeds before and will need to take him to training classes. They should be at home most of the day and have the time to devote to training this intelligent young dog. He is a typical bright Staffy, very active and lively and like a bull in a china shop when he plays. He will need one to two hours of off-lead exercise every day. He will eat dry food but would always opt for human food given the choice.

Samson came to The Mayhew with a luxating patella - a knee joint that slips out of place - but has had surgery for this and is well on the road to recovery, and ready to start a new life in a loving forever home. His new guardians will be taking on a fourteen-year commitment, which must not be taken lightly.
