A good end to the year !
Its not a CC or anything major but I am so chuffed.
At our ringcraft group each month they run a match night - all the winners throughout the year compete for Dog of the Year.
In July Connor won the Best Open in Match and then went on to win Best in Match
So on Monday we went along to compete for Dog of the Year.
First was the December match - so the Dog of the Year didnt' start til 9pm!
Emily got to handle a rottie in the match who was very norty! but wonderful. And Jess handled a BT really well to win the Open December match too.
First there was handling - Jess had qualified but emily hadn't as sadly it clashes with agility night! but Jess lost out to her friend with a field who didn't put a foot wrong.
I was in adult handling but didn't win! a lovely lady with her Beagle won who competes and was so pleased for her.
Then it was Puppy then Yearling then the class Connor was in for Open then the Vetarans.
There was some lovely dogs, a gorgeous Irish who won it last year plus two beautiful borzois, a goldie, Jess with the BT and a couple more but brain has gone blank!
The judge was Hector Heathcote who has deerhounds, and a rather glowing CV for judging - and believes runs KC conformation and movement seminars.
Now I watched him judge the Irish and he smiled when he finished and thought oh he likes that! When he judged Connor he didn't seem to look at him as much so thought oh well that's that!
At the end he kept going back to the Irish then Connor - but the Irish has done really well and is lovely but he came over and presented connor the Rosette and Trophy!! for Best Open 2010!
I was so pleased and surprised.
So after the veterans were judged it was time to judge Dog of the Year.
The final line up was:
A fabulous Sheltie Veteran
Connor
the most gorgeous Afghan Yearling Winner
and a Schnauzer puppy
And to my absolute amazement - after moving them round again - he picked Connor although thought the Afghan was going to get it!!!
So another huge rosette and trophy came home too!
I was so pleased and totally gobsmacked - Connor has had a good year this year - although only lightly shown at champs he got a 2nd in Post Grad at Richmond qualifying for Crufts and then a 1st at our Breed Ch show in October. Along with BOB's at Open shows and several shortllists in the group! - still chasing a group place!
I think the boy is finally maturing ! they are a breed that like to take their time! So along with Bentley hope to have a lot of fun next year!
The only downside on Monday was that I couldn't be in two places at once - it was our agility clubs Xmas competition but think I made the right choice!
He has spent the morning playing with Bentley and is now laying on top (yes on top) of Charlie for a cuddle!
Thanks for reading and sorry the photos aren't great quality!
