Cherry's having her eye removed

I drove Cherry to Newmarket Animal Health Trust yesterday for her check-up and it wasn't good news. She will have to have her right eye removed. It is not visual and the infection has not gone away and the pressure was 42

To give you an idea-the pressure in the left eye was 12. The vet said if a person had this type of pressure they would have a very bad headache

They said it would be half the price to have this op at our own vets as Newmarket have to charge more for their specialist trained staff's wages. I rang this morning and I've booked her in for Monday morning.

To be honest I was expecting this but my husband was very upset and disappointed as he's been praying for Cherry regularly and has a lot of faith. It is still a miracle that she has sight in the other eye, the vets at Newmarket say that they have never ever had a dog that has been through the complications Cherry has and still have sight so we have to count our blessings.

Please think of us on Monday. At least with her breed I can grow her hair again so it falls over the eye socket so it won't be noticeable. I don't want people staring at her.

Im very sorry to hear the news. But it sounds like its for the best. Dogs hide pain well and I know you'll always do whats right for Cherry. My friends GSD X had his eye removed a couple of years ago due to a tumour and he managed so well. He had very little vision in it anyway so losing it wasnt a huge change for him. Its a bit gruesome to look at when they first have it done but once the stitches are out and the hair starts to grow, you'll forget she even had it done. Sending vibes for monday and big hugs for you as Im sure you'll be a bag of nerves about the surgery. Give Cherry a gentle hug from me and Tilly and Gracie send healing licks. xx

Awww, poor Cherry, bless her little heart. I know it sounds an awful op but there are lots of dogs that manage just fine, and I expect if it is causing the pain the vet thinks it could, she will get a new lease of life once the eye is removed.

she will feel sooooo much better,and try not to worry its a common op...its the only one im squeamish about..still am 19years on

I will be thinking of you and Cherry on Monday and hoping everything goes smoothly during the op. and that she will soon be free of pain.

I will be thinking of Cherry and you all on Monday. I am sure it will all go well, but i won't say don't worry as I think us devoted mummys just can't help worrying ourselves silly.

I'm very sorry to hear this. I can imagine how upset you must be.

Dogs don't dwell on things like this, unlike people, and I'm sure she will just get on with it. I'm sure she will be much happier if it's causing pain or discomfort.
