Must admit this occurred to me?

Or anaphalatic shock but without an injection to sort out - can't see that would be it - same with snake bite - she would need an injection to sort it???

Glad she is getting back on all four paws - H I know this is easy to say but please try not to worry too much lovey - tea and biscuits on order for you x x

No Emma, he didn't but will do on Monday I guess. I think from what he heard inside with his stethoscope might have been enough for him to point to heart though, maybe?! xxxx

Hopefully you can get the bottom of this hun, I know how precious she is to you. I am now going to read the rest of the posts.
Thanks Lorna and yes, you are sooooo right there, she's the most prescious thing that has ever come into my life, and when I bent down earlier to tell her that, I think she already knew and plastered me with her kisses. xxxxx

Well it's another waiting game mate, till monday. I mean't to ask you about your vet doing an ecg or did I
Glad she, and you are feeling better now...what a day!!!!!!

Elaine xx
Lol, yes we like to be different as you well know!!! Thanks for everything mate, but most of all for just being there when I needed somebody this morning. You'll be getting the wrong impression of me won't you, I'm always crying down the phone to you, but I'm sure one day we'll be laughing again!!!xxxxx

One thing that did occur to me though, what was the timing of these episodes either side of her season? The reason I ask is that I thought Tawny was fitting, she had all sorts of tests and they put it down to her hormones several weeks after her season. She was speyed as soon as possible afterwards and never had another episode.
Thanks Sheree, but the first time was way, way back, she was well before her season, and anyways, this was so very sudden, something must have happened to trigger it, don't ask me what, whether it be a bite, something nasty on that ball, the fact that she had a short fast run, I will never know I don't suppose, but I never want to see it happen again!xxxx

You know how when they're sleeping and their mouth kind of curls down when they're lying on their side? Well, hers was all tightly drawn in, all her lips were drawn in and sloping down, she looked sooooooo pitiful, I will never forget that look as she lay there this morning. I hope none of you ever have to witness anything like this, but the very least you can get out of this is to remember to take that mobile phone with you, if nothing else, it gives you a life line of hope, whereas I didn't even have that. I think I'm very, very lucky I managed to get her back to that car, otherwise I think I'd be writing up a totally different thread here somehow!

She's had a nice sleep, she greeted me with great enthusiasm coz it's playtime now, but I will keep it quiet with the big football and just play tug with her I don't want her running around, not today anyway. I can't believe this has happened quite honestly, in all my years of dog ownership, I always dreaded a time like today, and there it was and I wasn't prepared for it. Another nail in my coffin then!!!! xxxxxx

Hi Shona. I don't know, coz it was the actual sickness that started all this off, so WHY the sickness and so sudden and so much of it, with walking inbetween? I have to say it was real wrenching sickness too, not just a dog throwing up, and the first time, yes, she was a bit better so we walked on, normally, but then it all started again about 2 minutes after and then it all went downhill from there.

Yeah, those tea and biscuits Rach!!!! Making a bit of a habit of this now aren't I!!! Make it stop somebody pleeeeeeease!!!xxxxx

yup would have thought either of the two above would have needed medical intervention, most dogs going into anaphalactic shock never make it to the vets sadly.

I know if there is a heart irregularity the vet can hear it with a stethoscope, and in some instances if it is really bad they can feel it. I am pretty sure that by now any heart problem would have been picked up.
Not sure if this is of any help whatsoever, but it is a similar occurence.
When I took mine for their first booster, I set off home walking with them, we had only gone round the corner and Cariad just started throwing up and staggering around. I quickly rang the vets but by then she had regained her composure and rushed her back in as quickly as I could without actually walking fast if you get my drift I did check her gums and eyes and they were still pink though. I got her back there and he checked her over and said that sometimes there was a reaction to boosters like this, and I must say she does have a reaction every year to them, but never as bad as this first one, usually just runny poo's for a couple of days. So maybe she had some sort of reaction to pollen even. You say she didn't want to pick the ball up, I wonder if there was some sort of insect on it or near her that bit her, or she trod on something, that piece of skin you took off her foot, she could have been stung by a dying wasp. You may never know that is the frustrating part. I deff feel it was a reaction to something, I just can't see an underlying health problem remaining undetected, lets face it she has had her fair share of trips to the vets already

I tend to agree with you there June, I think this was something on that ball that made her start the throwing up, which in turn set off a sequence of events with the pain etc. but THEN I think back to that other awful night I had, seeing her on her side just like she was this morning, almost passing out or dare Isay it, dying on me, coz that's just what it looked like, especially the eyes slowly closing like they were. I know he said it can't be that hernia, but I beg to differ, and the sooner I get that sorted out the better!

Once we've done the heart tests on Monday and if they're all clear, then I am going for a scan of that hernia area just to make sure there's no blood vessel nearby which could get trapped. I don't see the point of having it done prior to her spey, but if it's a high risk then I will do, what choice do I have Maybe the vet can even spey her earlier than the 12 weeks after the season if we urgently need to sort that hernia out, I don't know?!

All I know is, whatever this was, it was serious, very serious. For her not to want to get up and follow me and Georgie but just lie there on her side was something quite painful to watch as you can imagine. I just thank God I got her to the car eventually and then on to the vets.

Apparently, that SAS (heart problem) cannot be diagnosed by a normal gpvet, it can only be diagnosed by a heart specialist, and I have to say, her symptoms of this morning and that other night DO point to that one for me anyway, but then again, good job I am NOT a vet the amount of diagnosis I've come up with on here hey?!!!!! xxxxxxx

OMG Helena - just got in from work and read through the whole thread.
Sending you lots of hugs.
I know what you mean about being so on your own in the middle of no-where - that is my dread too - I would never be able to lift Sydney - I don't always take a phone but will now.
Sounds like she is much brighter now and hope that continues and the vet and specialist can give you some answers.
Lots of love xxx

Oh my lord H, what a day you've both had, i can only imagine the things that must have been going through your mind and still are.
I bet poor georgie was wondering WTH is going on. Was he with you?
Big hugs to you and kisses to zena and georgie.
Hopefully you will learn more on monday.
I'm not going to bother to say don't worry, cause you know you will, until this is all sorted out.

I hope the tests on Monday go well and you find out what the matter was with the lovely Zena, Helena. What a shock you have had and poor Zena as well.

Glad that Zena is resting.

I always take my mobile out with me when I with Loki on her walkies - just as a precaution.

Thinking of you and the beautiful Zena. Will keep her in my prayers.

Take care and hugs to you from me, Loki, PJ and Soochie xxxx
