Drives

As it can get rather complicated and confusing ... is there someone who can specify all the different drives in dogs and give an example of each one.

There is some controversy over how many drives there are, and what they should be called.

E.g. some argue that (toy) play drive is the same as prey drive, others argue it is different. Personally I think it is the same thing.

A trainer I respect is of the view that the only drives a dog has which are relevant to protection training are prey and defense. Others argue that there are others too like fight (e.g. Frawley) and bite drive (e.g. Michael Ellis).

Then there are drives not relevant to protection work, e.g. food, sex drive etc.
