What breed of dog would you have if.......

.... you could no longer have your current choice of dog.

Following on from the exercise thread, and getting dogs to suit the exercise levels we can offer them, i was wondering what dogs people who change to as they got older (or became ill/disabled) and could no long coap with the exercise levels their dogs needed or their strength?

If i had to have a small dog i think i would either go for a small crossbreed or a CKCS.

What would you do?

I honesty don't know. I find it hard to imagine my life without Collies...they are a breed that really get under my skin.
I think I would go for rescuesing from Tail ends or a similar charity that looks for homes for old dogs. I think I'd like to be able to offer a peaceful last (however long) for some oldies.

If I couldn't have my pugs I'd probably do the really stereotypical thing and go for a Boston Terrier

They're alert and active enough to be a lot of fun but at the same time are small enough to cope with, in my opinion!

I like the Heinz expression. I also like the oldies rescue idea - i think that would be my ideal.

Ooo you've still chosen quite big strong small dogs (if you see what i mean). Going to push you now, what if you could no longer have a strong dog?
