I do feel for you, it's horrible sitting there in the eerie dog free quiet - but you know, he WILL be fast asleep and not fretting as you are......the after effects of the anaesthetic plus other drugs will see to that.

Good luck tomorrow

Thanks.
No word from the vets yet. I'm guessing they are busy. Holding back on picking up the phone to check on him and waiting for them to update me.

So strange not having him tucked up under the duvet with me last night!

Fingers crossed that you hear very soon - I do not think I would have your patience and would have been on the phone first thing this morning!

(((hugs))) xx

Well, my wee man came home yesterday evening. The nurses tell me that they were surprised to see him standing in his crate just over and hour after surgery like nothing had happened. (We've always said you'd have to shoot him twice just to get his attention....)

He's sore and tired, but was still able to be lifted into bed this morning for some gentle cuddles before we got up. He's sporting a great big yellow bandage with smiley faces on it, which amused the girls when we got home.

He's lying sleeping in his crate now. We are due back to vets on Saturday morning for bandage change and then again on Tuesday for assessment as to how he's getting on. The vet that carried out the op is getting married on Wednesday, but other vets will be there to keep an eye on El.

I reckon this will be the easy bit. He's tired, so happy to lie in the crate and not able to worry at his wounds. Pnce he's feeling more at himself it will be stuffed kongs at the ready!

So glad to have him home and on the road to recovery.

Oh! I asked the vet which of the ligaments had torn. She said BOTH were competely torn and already some signs of...... something I can't recall the name of, in the joint.

Glad you've got your boy home and the surgery went well. That's one hurdle crossed, just a few more today!

We're 3 weeks in as of today and all is going well as far as I can tell. Still quick toilet breaks and that's it though, but she's coping well.

Was the word they mentioned osteoarthritis?

No, it wasn't. He has the beginnings of arthritis in both hips though, we knew that from the last set of xrays. But it's not causing him pain yet. We've had him on salmon oil since he moved in with us years ago and Yumove since Sept when the first xrays were done.

Bugging me trying to remember the word. Basically something that can come up on damaged joints over time....

Toilet breaks here are going smoothly thank goodness. And he's happy to go straight back into the crate when he gets back in. He really watches the other two dogs if they are about him, anxious incase they give him any knocks.

Good to hear it's all going well at your house 3 weeks into recovery.

Glad to hear he's recovering well. You feel so helpless when they have to have major surgery as you can't tell them what's going on and they are so dependent on you. One of my dogs had major back surgery a few years ago and while the recovery seemed to go on for ever, looking back it passed really quickly.

You are right, it's long whilst you are going through it, but short in the grand scheme of things. We've been through worse with my first dog, Willow needing a few operations on her broken leg which eventually needed amputation; it's all a distant memory now.

Took the wee man in this morning for his bandage change, which was just as well as it was slipping below the stitches earlier in the morning. He was well behaved and happy to toddle off with the vet again to get it done.

The vets are very happy with how he is healing and we are back on Tuesday for another check up.
