I have to say i've jokingly mentioned i'm going to have Flynn stuffed but I think it would be too creepy and disrespectful to the dog. I'd much prefer a traditional way of remembering my dogs i.e cremation and ashes.

I have never done it but know someone who has.

They said it was the worse thing they did.

The finished article just was not the dog they loved and some thirty years later although they think it looks horrible they can not throw it out. So it is stuck in the loft.

we joke about it with our family mongrel, hes ancient now and shows no sign of giving up, so we always say we would have him stuffed and then use him as a foot stool

but truthfully id never do it, dont think i could look at the stuffed version of them every day knowing they are no longer here.
much do the traditional ashes in a box thing or something along those lines.

Haven't had it done, if I was ever going to have it done, I'd want to do it myself...unless I knew the person who would be doing it well.

Though think I'd prefer the skeleton mounted like you see in museums etc, it would be less weird without the fur and glass eyes.

With that said, I was given (and still have) a 'stuffed squirle, doesn't bother me at all.

Eta

And a sharks skull/head.

other animals dont bother me... my uncle was a gamekeeper and he had all sorts of stuffed things, stoats, weasels, pheasant, ducks, crows, ravens, birds of prey, fox etc. we even have some owl thing which is from victorian times soon get used to them dont know if i could have the pet dog stuffed and lay by the fire though

each to their own but..

No, I wouldnt do that.

I dont have the ashes from my last pet that I 'lost' either.

I have memories. Anything that doesnt include their spirit, which of course ashes, bones, fur etc cant do alone, isn't them anyway.

I appreciate my pets for the individuals that they are and that personality wont be there if 'they' aren't.

just my thoughts on the matter

Considered it for my husband but dogs, no!

My friend's dad kept the bones from their departed dog in a box in their conservatory and he used to go and get it every night and say "Goodnight Shandy". It gave my friend the willies.

Totally agree.

The best place to bury a dog as they say is in your heart.

I do not do funerals, burying, cremation.

Once a dog is dead, all that is left is the "container".

Anyway, I have a hard enough time grooming them when they are alive, do not want to keep on doing it long after they are dead!

Mind you their "stays" would be rock solid
