Probably the same reasons as you, why is that so difficult to understand?

Your sights are set higher. Why not leave the "little shows" to us?

This is hilarious. I can't believe you take it so seriously, especially since you say only went to one show so far...........

Yes, one show and I had a lot of fun.

I noticed too that I was not in the group who were taking it seriously. They kept themselves, and their dogs, well away from the masses.

You said of people with show dogs : "I would have thought that stiffer competition would have been far more satisfying."

Entering these shows is indeed legitimate, but it is totally beyond me as to why you would want to do it.
Why I would want to do it ? With my pet dogs ? I dont have any show dogs, mine are all rescues, I have mentioned clearly enough that my dogs are not Show dogs...

People with Show dogs have made it very clear why they like to do it, so in a nutshell to recap for you, main reasons given are :

Experience of the ring for young Show dogs which haven`t shown much / at all yet

Socialisation for said young dogs

A fun day out with friends or family with some added pleasure of entering classes at a show

Supporting charities and having extra fun while doing so

Having Show dogs but costs of Breed shows are prohibitive so enter fun shows instead

Good experience for Junior Handlers

Meeting new people / enjoyment of being in the atmosphere of other dog lovers just wanting to have a nice day in like-minded [ mostly ] company

A day out `just because`

[ And other reasons which I can`t remember off the top of my head without going through all the posts ]

Which of the above reasons are `beyond you` ?

It gives me no pleasure to say this but I can`t help get the feeling that anyone who does`nt want show dogs to be allowed simply can`t stand the competition and would rather be in a smaller class where they would have more chance of a rosie, in which case they are either far more of a pot hunter than those they accuse of just that, or they just can`t think much of their own dog if they don`t realise they already have the best dog no matter what a judge may think on the day

I have explained the reference which was made to `little` shows, please don`t deliberately latch onto what you completely misunderstood to use it as a sniping tool

In fact, if your one experience was so dreadful and you are so anti-just-about-everything to do with fun shows, I can`t quite understand why you are even bothering to comment as I`m assuming you won`t be bothering to go to any more if the first and only one you have attended was so distasteful to you :smt102

It was obvious to me the the 'real showers' who entered the show Saturday, and didn't win anything, did not have fun. They had a look of disbelief on their faces, shaking the heads and shrugging their shoulders, which amused us! It seems they were the ones taking it far too seriously, imo.
