How long before bedtime should you feed?

It's really hard to find out from books etc how long before bedtime a dog should be fed. We kept to the feed times she had in the rescue centre, so we feed her at 6, and she takes herself off to bed about 10, then she gets fed at about 8 after her morning walk. She is 9 years old.
Obviously you could say that as it's working for her, don't change it, but I wonder if it is the best, health wise? The rescue centre had to feed according to their staffing hours, so it may not be ideal. Would be grateful for any thoughts.

dont see anything wrong with what you do. mine get fed from anywhere between half 8 and half 10 in the morning, and any time between 5 and half 7 in the evening. if i go out then they may have it later. i dont have a strict routine with mine, which means i can be flexible in what i do.

i like them to toilet and empty themselves before bed, so that they dont wake me up to early if i dont have to be up but i know some people who feed there dogs at say 10 o clock in the evening, then they go to sleep.

I don't think that the actual times a dog gets fed has any effect on it's health. I eat at random times of the day myself with no ill effects

Mine are fed at differing times, depending on whether they are out training, or I'm out working, or not. They rather often get fed around 9-10pm and then go straight to bed with no problems, although we are always up at around 6am anyway.

Other days they might get fed at 6pm, then nothing again until late morning.

8am and 6pm sounds fine to me

I don't think it matters as long as you don't feed 1 hour before or after a walk, to avoid bloat.

I feed Ollie at 5pm and he goes to bed at around 9-10pm, and he gets fed at 6am.

I leave it at least an hour before bedtime, so if the dog needs the loo afterwards then it will go before bed

I think if it's working and she is fine then sounds fair enough.
Our feeding routine varies, depending, but give or take, usually something in the morning, then just before bedtime.
If I'm on an early shift then, 1st thing some mince, late afternoon apoultry wing, then just before bed (an hour or two after evening walk) some mince. If I'm starting later, he will get a longer walk in the morning, so first feed late morning/early afternoon, then a walk in the evening, so fed again just before bed. Does that make sense?
Basically his late evening feed is a constant and the others vary depending on exercise/shifts. But he is always fed 2-3 times in a day.

I basically never feed him at tea time as he would need out about 2-3am.

my dog gets fed at half 6 in the morning and between 6 and 7 at night which is about 5 hours before bed.
Thing is we have set bedtimes and dogs just sleep randomly throughout the day. I know if there's toileting problems many suggest around 5 or 6pm
