Summer the Westie-Can you help?

SUMMER
Summer needs a foster carer who is willing to give her regular baths and treatment to get her poor skin right. Please call Sylvia on 01269 843084 if you can help.

SUMMER

21--08-07 Summer is a 3 year old Westie. She has thickened skin on her lower legs, but no hair loss. She is very sweet but does not know the art of lead walking or the comfort of a home, but is more than willing to learn.

You can see Summer at:

Update: Sadly poor little Summer has just found the confidence to walk around a little and we find she needs a hind leg x-rayed. So until Tuesday we can not send her to either a foster home or a permanent home. This is a dear poor dog that really has suffered enough without this. it does not seem fair. So if you can foster or want to adopt her please call after Tuesday when we will know more.

can I ask why she has the thickened skin on her legs? I would love to help out but Flower is so energetic I feel it would only upset her. I have grown up with westies so know the breed well. xxx

Sorry I dont know but presume its to do with her past, the best thing to do is to talk to many tears either by phone or email, they are very helpful and would talk through any concerns with you.
I think Flower might actually give her the confidence, it worked with my two.
I really hope you can help, they are a wonderful place, but very short staffed at the moment.

Thank you gemma! we are deffinately looking to rescue, I have a small enclosed garden behind our house but we bought a large garden too, it just needs fencing off to make it secure, which we will be doing october! Once this is done there will be lots more room! I do work full time and my partner does...but he works from home almost every day so always someone there!!

I love the look of many of the dogs on manytears and I hope I they will accept me when they come to do a visit...but will keep you updated!!

xxxxx

As i said in the PM your set up sounds just perfect, and dont worry about the garden size, with all that walking you do, you will have no problem.
Good luck, i have to say its such a rewarding thing to do and Many tears is just brilliant.
All the best
Gemma

An update

PRUDENCE & SUMMER

03-09-07 This is a picture of Prudence and Summer (please see many tears website at: http://www.freewebs.com/manytearsres...es.htm)(Summer is at the front).
Both these little Westies have had it hard so both require special homes (separate or together).

Prudence came to us as an ex breeding bitch. She is a lively, friendly lady. Sadly when we had her spayed she came back unable to walk properly. We thought she had slipped a disc but it was not quite that severe. She is recovering although it is a slow process and she can only have lead walks.

Summer had bad skin problems and lameness. We have treated her skin and it is improving every day and nearly 100%. We had her x-rayed and that showed she had abnormal hips. She MAY need an operation if once her muscles build up she does not remain sound. Here in Wales there is specialist who will charge us a reasonable rate if that is needed. So if Summer is homed out of Wales I could only pay the same amount towards an operation as I would pay here or she would need to come to mid Wales for the operation should she need it.

So these two girlies are stuck here as no one seems to want to take them on. Homes or failing that a foster home would be great. There will be no adoption fee though any donation would be lovely.
