Socialising my senior dog

Basically my dog is ten now and has never really been socialised but she had my neighbours dogs to bark at. Unfortuantly my neighbour died on Saturday and now the dogs have gone to a shelter. She keeps running around to the fence to bark at the dogs and never gets a reply now, she has been doing puppy eyes at my neighbours house and occassionaly comes in crying.
Since this has happened i really want to get her socialised to prevent her getting too lonely. My only problem is i get terrified when she goes near another dog as i know what she could do and what other dogs in the village are like, I'm going to try and persuade my dad to help as he doesn't get so nervous about it which will reassure my dog. She has got a muzzle which i will use at least for the first few times. Has anyone got any advice about how to do as she is my first dog and have never done anything like this before
Thank you

I had a rescue lad who was 11 when I had him, chatted to local dog club & took him along for socialisation & before he died 3 years later he had passed his bronze & silver good citizen tests. Hope you succeed in helping your dog.

That sounds like one heck of an achievement, i'll have a look to see if there's anything nearby, i know there's some training classes though but she doesn't need so much training lol so will look for dog clubs

ETA
I've just checked kennel club website and there's 3 around 10 miles from me which isn't bad, my college is listed on it which i never knew, may have a word with my tutor about it but it's quite far for my dog to travel and i'm leaving in two months - s*ds law or what lol

He didn't really need obedience type training, thats why I phoned round first to explain what I needed. Had help from two clubs & went to both but one was indoors & he prefered outdoors so in the end we stuck with that one,

One of these groups ran training classes but they welcomed us & let him just join in the weaving around other dogs & greeting with permission exercises & not the obedience stuff till I decided to try for his good citizen certificate

Thanks for the info.
On the Kennel club website for the west mids the Albrighton one is still apparently running, where it is/was held is a ten minute walk, I thought it had stopped as there is no advertising but i will go down and have a look, i don't know why they won't do socialising
