until i organise the new trainer what are people thoughts of walking Simba with a correct chain until I get advice from the new trainer (still yet to book a time and date for the initial session)
Not quite sure what a correct chain is possibly a pinch collar ??

In any case I would never use a chain on an untrained dog. If you want to do some training at home, then it should be done offlead(in a safe area of course)using a treat or toy to lure the dog to your side.

As soon as you attach a lead to a collar & tightened the lead you are actually teaching your dog to pull. It is a natural reaction for any animal(including humans)to pull away if pulled by someone/something else. Try it on a human pull a sleeve of a coat & they will pull away as an instinctive reaction

Google Karen Pryor she has an excellent website with lots of information about using a clicker to teach your dog to work out what is rewarding

i believe some people call it a choker chain and some people call it a correct chain, just tightens around the dogs neck when he pulls on the lead. just wondering until the training starts if I should use this or a regular collar.

Use a regular collar, when he pulls stop moving until the leash slackens then walk again they soon learn how to teach you to move forward.

If his pulling is super bad then turn and walk the opposite direction till he catches up with you, normally only a few steps will do. It is slow going but keep in mind he does not know how to do this properly yet and that other trainer has probably confused the poor boy.

Books:

A flat collar should be used, however you may find a head halter or a harness helpul for a short time to manage your dog.
