What should i be giving my dog?

I know there is a post lower down on vitamins and stuff, but what should i be giving my dog? She is a seven year old wheaten terrier and at the moment she is given cod liver oil but it say that it is too high in vitamin A to give regularly. Is there anything that she would benefit on? What do give your dogs?

I totally agree with Gems. My Gordon bitch (also 7 )is on a special suppliment for her hips, but other than that none of my dogs get additional suppliments.

They can do more harm than good in my opinion.

Yeah I heard that giving suppliments is more harmfull if they are getting all they need in their food already and if you feed commercial then the vitamins should all be covered.

But when about if you are feeding raw and you want to make sure you are getting all the vitamins covered. would you suppliment then?

I heard that the raw diet is tricky and if you don't get the nutritional balance correct it could do more harm than good. I don't know details about what supplements, etc. Be careful with it. I don't supplement or feed raw, but I do feed a lot of meat and vegetables in addition to kibble.

If you are feeding a good quality complete food you do not need to supplement. However, the occasional tin of sardines, tuna, or an egg will do no harm & will be appreciated by your dog

If you are feeding raw or home-cooked then you do need to supplement to ensure that they are getting all the vitamins & minerals they require.
