Hugs to you both xx
Thank you very much!

Hi MG,

I emailed Merck asking if the USA Scalibor collar was different from the European one. Here's the reply;

The Scalibor Protector Band is the same product in the US and in the UK. The US now has a claim against mosquitoes which was added to the label last year. It actually has some repellency characteristics against mosquitoes and should help the dog immensely.

Sincerely,

Hey Nicky, I am sorry that I have not gotten back to you. Thank you for the information on the flea collar that has mosquito repellent. I found it at a health food store in our area. They carry good things for people and animals. The visit with the Vet went well.She brought her microscope out to check if there was baby heartworms in his blood. He came out clean for that. So we have him on heartworm preventative medication now all year around. In 4 months from his first treatment he will be tested again to see if he is positive or negative, that will be in September. We have a tri level home and Kye went all the way to the top floor to be with me and Manny. He still does not trust my Husband at all. He has a thing about men, I wish he would bond with my Husband. I been having him bring the food to him. He wants no part of him , he won't even explore the other floors in the house if he is around. Thank God I have a female Vet.Well just another hoop to jump through and work on. Enough about me , how are you doing?

Try not to worry too much about this as it's almost 100% down to some previous maltreatment by a man, cruelty often is. I hope your husband can take this on board and live with it, in years from now you might see a change but so long as your husband has enough self esteem to not make it an issue then all will be fine.

I love reading your updates, so far I think all is going well and to have saved one cannine from a horrible starving and brutal death is something you can both be proud of.

Hi MG, nice to hear from you. So glad the blood tests were -ve. I hope the collar gives Kye some relief from the mozzies.

Now that Kye has mastered stairs, there seems to be no stopping him. Great news.

Have you tried hubby dropping yummy treats on the floor and walking away from Kye. Teeny bits of salami or something smelly. Eventually Kye will associate him with good things. I'm sure he'll come around in time.

How are we doing? The dogs are fine. I'm just cheesed off with the awful weather we're having here. Mid June and it feels like autumn.

Thanks Losos, My Husband is really easy going , he does not take it personally. We had quite an experience yesterday. We live in a tri level home. Kye was sleeping in the lower level and a severe storm came in, with alot of hail. It made some really aweful sounds hitting against the windows. As I was looking out at the weather on the main floor ,I glanced down, and low and behold there was Kye running into our mudroom . My Husband was in the dinningroom sitting at his computer. I don't know if Kye seen him or not but he was terrified of the storm. He was breathing rapidly and shaking so bad. I just knelt down next to him hugged him firmly and told him everything is going to be alright , I will protect you. When the storm past he layed down on the floor in the livingroom , which he has never done. I went outside to pick up our garbage cans that fell over. When I came back Kye was back downstairs in the lower level. He must have realized that my Husband is there and that he better leave because I 'm not around. Poor boy he has so many issues to deal with.I'm so glad that I can share my experiences with others about my trials with this poor dog. I do enjoy the response from others, knowing someone cares.

Hey Nicky, I did have my Husband put some hamberger down and some cooked chicken. He would run away from him , but waited till he left the room then come back and eat it. Salami sounds like something different that he might like. Though I have to watch out on what I feed him, because he has been having several episodes of loose stools ,got that under control now. We been having some crazy weather also. Some days it is overcast and cool , you would never think that is Summer time, so you are not alone. Please read the article I wrote to Losos on another experience with Kye.

That sounds very much like our Baruska, she will face up to anything she thinks is a threat if she can see it, and that includes massive John Deere tractors BUT if she can't see it she becomes a bag of nerves so thunder terrifies her and loud heavy rain on the roof also. She is also a rescue dog and at first she didn't want to know me and would only go to my wife who did the same as you, knelt down, put her arms around her, and told her she was safe, even 'tho the thunder was right overhead and the lightening and the rain banging on the patio roof making a lot of noise.

I read some where that the first 20 weeks of a dogs life determine how they will be forever, if that time is full of stress and danger and bad treatment then they will be nervous and frightened at many things, if they have spent that time in a good home with loving owners then they are completely different.
