I think its worth pointing out here that the dogs did NOT harm the child that inadvertedly caused the problem, nor did he say that they child was in danger of being eaten aswell! I think the OP was just pointing out what a trivial thing caused this terrible fight.

The title of this thread baffles me a bit
'Fighting breed owners' Maybe it's just me but ANY canine can be capable of being a 'fighting breed'

I own a SBT x AB. Is he classed as 'fighting breed' ? Because silly as it may sound...My mums Yorkie is more vicious than him. She is dog agressive and human agressive.... My sbt x ab is not a fighter. He was bitten badly in the park a few weeks ago by a BC. That BC herded in on him straight away and went straight for his legs. Georgie didn't react in the way I thought a bull breed would. He yelped, ran for his life and didn't go back for more.

1. A child can spill things you know, in fact its quite common, and I expect the majority of dogs owned by people on here would of rushed to it if it fell.

2. Type and temperament? purely for pets I assume? the idea of breeding is to get an animal to conform to the standard laid down for it. A leopard dont change its spots, breed instinct does come out.

3. Thats a very naive comment, as an owner of a Bull breed, you should know that once they start fighting it is incredibly difficult to stop them, ask the majority on here, many of them keep "break sticks" in case of fights, doesnt mean the dogs are fighting all the time, nor are they bad owners, as you make this person you know nothing about, to be. A bite in the right area can kill a dog in seconds.

1. yes any child can spill food HENCE WHY YOU SHOULD TEACH ANY DOG TO NOT GO FOR FOOD SPILLS OF ANY KIND none of my bullies would dream of diving for food if it happens to spill be it me or my children the wait for an ok off myself or hubby !

2 YES TYPES AND TEMPREMENT and the standard in no way calls for an aggressive dog .. type i breed for conformation TEMREMENT i ensure that none of my dogs are human aggressive in any way they are socialised with children adults and other dogs yes you get dog aggressive ones but THAT IS NATURE and HENCE YOU KEEP AN EYE ON THAT DOG not letting it mix freely etc!

3 I AM NOT NIAVE at all i know my breed thank you and sorry but i dont need a stick to break up any fight or squable my dogs have or have had they know if i shout off they off and they have done ! TRAINING is prevelant in any breed and in particular strong minded breeds !

4 its unfortunate the other dog was killed but it could have been any two dogs of any breed yorkie whatever it makes no matter any dogs can fight and kill if they bite in the area to cause death etc but why should it be a warning to fighting dog owners ?????

yes some breeds WERE USED FOR fighting and even now some still do fight illegally but sorry if any dog is brought up with love and patience no matter what breed it can turn on children that is exactly why i train and socialise and am very careful with my dogs AND YES THIS INCLUDES MY DAFT AS A BRUSH PYRENEAN MOUNTAIN DOG WHO MIXES WITH MY BULL TERRIERS

Normally i don't agree with the original poster either but I do think we all have to be awre of the type of dogs we have. Example...I wouldn't let my BC off around sheep...
he is good as gold and too old to care...but he still has instinctive behaviours...as any breed does. All breeds were bred for specific purposes and it would be irresponsible of us not to accept that and be aware of it on a daily basis.:smt002
Ok so you would not let your collie off around sheep , thats great, so dont let a dog with the DOG fighting instinct off around other dogs! But does that mean they should be kept away from child, when they are so well known and proven to better with child than most bull breeds?

just pointing out your post is good! i agree what what you have said!

Did you read the part where the OP said up untill that point these dogs had showed NO aggression, and that they were kept as pets? If it could of been anticipated, dont you think it would of been prevented?

I think thats a bit of a sweeping statement, I would bet you or I could easily stop 2 Yorkies from killing eachother!

I am not having a go at the breeds themselves, I am pointing out that the OP was merely posting a warning, he may of worded it wrongly in some peoples eyes, but he wasnt deriding the breed (AM Staffs) as far as I can see.

come on guys please dont fall out.
maybe the title could have been better put but its only a warning because an event has taken place, any dog could be pushed to the limit and fight you only need 2 dogs who won't give in for that to happen,
i know you get sick of hearing ppl class your breeds as killers / fighers etc which i fully understand but if a guest read this thread it isn't a pretty picture.

I know you are defending your breeds and I FULLY respect that, I have no problem with Bull breeds, and as I say the OP perhaps could of worded the title better, but i dont think he meant to offend, nor do I.
