Dolly - Am Bulldog

Dolly is a eight-month-old, female, American Bulldog, who was returned to The Mayhew through no fault of her own. She is a very friendly girl, lively and bouncy once she has been coaxed out of her shell. She has not had much socialization with strangers or new environments. She will need to go to training classes to build her confidence, work on her socialisation. She knows basic commands but does needtoilet training. Time will need to be spent working on her nervous behaviour, she will occasionally bark at strangers she feels fearful of and can be protective of her handler. She learns quickly, enjoys her training and is very eager to please, so she will be an excellent student. She can be left on her own for a few hours without any problems. She walks well on her lead and has an excellent recall when off her lead in the park. Her new guardians will be taking on a fifteen year commitment which must not be taken lightly.

What Dolly lacks in confidence, she makes up for in kisses and cuddles. She is sweet-natured and extremely loving and affectionate. With the security of a loving and patient new guardian she will blossom into a wonderful companion.

Dolly loves to play ball, going for off lead walks and playing with other dogs. She will need two thirty minutes of off-lead exercise every day whilst still young, rising to a minimum of two hours of off-lead exercise daily once fully grown. She is currently walked off-lead on a trailing long line, this will need to be continued until her confidence has improved and her recall is reliable. Dolly would suit an active experienced adult family who have experience of American Bulldogs or larger breeds. She could be homed with sensible teenagers.
