Disappointed ..!

Imagine this ...

We have been planning a Christening for our Children for months now .. as they are not babies (8 & 11), we wanted it to be a bit special as they could play a part in the service ... so, we arranged that we would have it in our garden! having a table for the holy water in a nice china bowl, with everyone bringing a plant in a pot to stand around the table to make it a centre piece .. around 40-50 people coming. I was playing a part in the service, we were having prayers & poems, my friend was going to play the guitar for some favourite hymms ... this is all in preparation for Sunday 4th September

Today, we hear from the Vicar that unfortunately we can`t When the Vicar looked into it in more detail & spoke to the Bishop, he was surprised to find out that legally, it has to be in a public place with full immersion in a river or the sea when it is an adult or of child age.

I am soooo disappointed ..! i don`t know what we will do now? Lucy

He had to apply for permission as the Ceremony was not being performed in a Church, then all the red tape proceedures have to be agreed so much for wanting something a bit different than the norm & more personal ... Lucy

Bit confused.

Can you do it in the Church but you want it outside, right?
But if outside, it has to be in a river or sea?

Is there a nice river or stream near you?
Do you fancy a trip to the seaside? Would the Vicar travel?

Lucky, we are only 3 miles from the sea ourselves, but to be baptised in the sea, it is a full submersion, not something i would want to have the kids do it`s the North Sea, we very rarely get the weather to paddle, let along be dipped, knowing our luck it will be cold, wet & windy that day anyway we just wanted to have the same ceremony as in Church, but in our garden, that`s all ... looks like we may have to have the ceremony in Church after all ... just wanted something different ...Lucy
