I saw him a few years ago in Edinburgh and thought he was wonderful but have to say SMAF just isn't for me - have listened, digested, tried it out and decided it's just not me at all but I know others who have used since the seminar and love it.

It makes sense to me as I have to construct lesson plan, DLO and POA anyway in my job. I am going to experiment next week with it.

so i downloaded the SMAF manual last nite.
bear in mind i only a little bit so far.

S = signal, M = meaning F = form

the signal is 'me saying hello', meaning = the other person to turn around and look at me, form = the sound of the word 'hello' heard by other person/ this could take the form of a waved hand if the person is deaf, for example.

but their are 4 types of hello which require someone else to look at me require them to look at me for 4 different reasons:
1) hello: greeting
2) hello: annoyance, as in the shop assistant is ignoring me
3) hello: surpise of revelation/you are busted, as in the teacher has found the skiving child in the loos
4) hello: flirting

obviously these all relate to tone of voice, so would this not relate to sound and therfore "Form"?
Thus, where does "reason/context" fit into the equation?

I am particularly interested in participating in an experiment he is planning over the next year re detection dogs.
What is the experiment?

skimming more of the SMAF manual it is pleasing to me that he is using the danish for good dog.
as i speak this and its such a superior sound for its purpose than the english phonetics.
