But people who've never bought a dog from a breeder before don't know what to expect. Not everyone does their homework or thinks they need to and not everyone is familiar with resource sites like this one or maybe doesn't even know anyone else who's ever bought a dog from a breeder before.

The trouble is , people tell lies or put on to much of a show when the want a pup, they will tell the breeder what he/ she wants to hear.....Even the most clued up careful breeders can get duped sometimes. I can't remember the actual reason, but it was along the lines of him saying something that put her guard up, she decided he was NOT taking one of HER babies away, and told him she had changed her mind.

Don't go getting worried the same will happen to you, be yourself, don't try to over impress, I am sure you will get your pup from a reputable breeder.

Yes some breeders do, but many don't for the very reasons I gave, if no money changes hands, the breeder is under no obligation .

I do ask for deposits now, I never used to, but I have been messed around so much that now I ask for a deposit.
You wouldn't believe some of the things that happen, I wouldn't have done, till they happened to me. If someone is serious that they want a pup from the litter I ask for a deposit, they can then come and see them after 4 weeks, and based on what they have told me about themselves, their lifestyle and family I can usually pick out a puppy at around 6 weeks, after their eye test, that will suit them.
I have turned people down, and I will probably will again if I breed from Mabs.
