I used to put rock sulpher in my dogs bowls, big yellow rocks they were, I don't know if they benefitted or not as they would remove them from the water bowls and lay and chew them up

I have only just seen this and hope i can help a little.
My JRT Milo is allergic to what seems like everything including marrow in a fresh marrowbone and will scratch himself to bits if he has or comes into contact with something wrong. I have him under control now though with very rare odd scratch no more than a normal dog.
Firstly he is allergic to fleas, he is also very allergic to flea preparations so I must never shampoo him or put flea treatments on him or he will scratch like a mad thing till he bleeds. I use a simple flea comb daily while he sleeps on my lap and this has kept him flea free for 18 months now.
Also diet, Flower could also have like Milo a food intolerance which is very common. I have found dried foods even hypoallergenic basic ones like fish and potatoe set him off. He now has naturediet sensitive and thrives on it.
All wormers he reacts to except milbermax so he has that one.
I must never use room or carpet freshners of any sort either as that will set him off.
It all sounds worse than it actually is as once in a routine for avoiding things it is no problem. I put him in a seperate room at food time so he can't get any of Shadys food to upset him and unless the little horror grabs a bit of bread or something someone has dropped out on a walk, he is scratch free really.
Hope this gives you some ideas and I am definatly not saying Flower reacts against all that Milo does but the flea preperations may be causing a problem or something else I have mentioned.

Thank you, such a helpful post! Last night and this morning Flower has been itching absolutely non stop, Im really feeling rather stuck at the moment, Its such a nightmare!

She isnt sore though, like the vet said when he examined her, her skin looks in perfect condition, and her coat...this is what baffles me..

Did your doglet have red-sore skin?

I will be going back to the vets on Friday I think, they never suggested a flea allergy, but if they don't this time, I will!!!!

Will the vet be able to recommend what she eats? I just don't know where to turn to get a diet to suit her!

xxxxxxx

With the flea allergy he had little sores appearing all over and was itching like mad. With the reaction to flea treatments, no he had no sign of reddened skin except on the spot the spot on was put and that went after 24hrs, but the itching got worse after it got in his system. he also does not have red skin with his food intolerances just scratches like mad and occasionally gets reddend where is claws are penetrating the skin.
So I have to say with all his allegies the only real time I see sore skin is with flea allergy or occasionally when he has contact with something his skin goes red briefly and then subsides and then the real scratching starts.
Very few vets are any good with diet related intolerances as I have found I have enlightened a few vets over the years to things. you do get the odd good one though. But you will find most will say use this type of science diet because they stock it and like in my milos case he is intolerant to it.

Right I have booked Flower into the vets for Friday, although Im optimistic at the moment. Will be mentioning everything that has been put forward to me on this thread! Im going to explain that the frontline was no good, and if anything has made her even more itchy!!

Im hoping, that as I am seeing a different vet (as the one I saw last week seemed rather inexperienced..)! That I may be able to get a solution!! xxxx

They may refer you to a skin specialist???? I did that with Cassie when she was a puppy coz no matter what I did she scratched and scratched all the time, and yet her skin looked perfect, just like your Flower's does. Anyway, he did some scrapings and put them under the microscope, said he couldn't find anything at all!!! I was a bit paranoid about scratching, because my other gsd at the time had a terrible skin complaint just like my Georgie does now, pyoderma (wet ecezma, whatever you want to call it!)

The strange thing is, I stopped doing everything apart from keeping her well groomed, and do you know, she never ever scratched much for the rest of her entire life!! She only ever scratched when she needed de-fleaing say once every 3 months and as soon as I had done that she never scratched again. Maybe your Flower might turn out the same?? She's only young after all, and like I say, that's just what Cassie was like as a puppy. Ask the vet if he can refer you to a skin specialist (our vet has one who visits once a week)and that would rule out a lot of things.

Somebody told me this morning there are a lot of mites around at the moment, and that flea treatment I mentioned in an earlier post Advocate or Advantage is the only one that kills mites as well, unlike Frontline etc. Good luck for Friday let us know.

Thank you.. I really do hope its a puppy thing, and if the vet prescribes her an alternative flea treatment we may get to the bottom of this! Will let you know how we get on...xxxxxx

Right back from the vets tis evening. I explained how I had a flea on me the other night (lovely!!) and he said it wouldnt be from Flow, but more than likely had hatched in the house. So I do need to deflea the house again for my own sake!!!

He couldnt see any sign of fleas or there droppings on her, and again said her skin looked immaculate! So he gave her an anti inflammatory in the hope this would calm her itching down.

I really hope it does!!

He also suggested...which is what I have thought may be an avenue, is that because she is still a baby, she has got used to itching and maybe does it now because she is used to it?? Sounds odd but could be plausible!

The next step if the anti inflammatories fail is for her to have a skin scraping, but its like the vet said...as her skin is in good condition theres not really anything to scrape!!

Will keep you updated...I really hope we can get to the bottom of this, she has been scratching non stop all week...but she doesn't scratch when she is playing, walking or occupied!!?? this may support the theory that she has just got used to itching..only time will tell I guess

xxxxxx
