Don't beat yourself up about it H, just take the fat away

Grated cheese goes down a storm here too, and left over potato (cooked without salt of course!) You can put out cooked rice too but try to remember that if any food that you put out swells when wet (like bread and rice etc) it MUST be soaked first as if it is swallowd dry then the bird takes a drink - it could kill the birdie

Full of the joys aren't I?

Here's something else a little sad - we were watching a mummy sparrow teach a fledgling how to land on and feed from the tube feeder in the front garden - shouldn't she be showing it how to catch worms?

Thats so funny! That's evolution in action that is! I guess you're commited to feeding the birds for generations to come now then or they'll all die out!

And, Helena, yes, my robin is just like that. He follows me round the garden and pecks insects up from where I've been digging. as soon as he hears the door open he swoops down and escorts me around. I've taken to carrying a bit of robin food with me and putting it on the ground wherever I go in the garden. He usually flies down next to me and has a good feed. Just today I went out to put some stuff in the compost bin at the bottom of the garden and just as I took the lid off I heard this little chirp and there he was hiding in the shrubbery next to me scolding me for coming out and not feeding him!

Anything I should be doing I am not oh yes every day I was down the bird table and wash the dishes in hot soapy water rinse, and refresh then.

Sounds like you're doing a fantastic job Kazz, I can't think of owt else to type at the mo, but I will as and if anything comes to mind. I promise I'll take a photo or 2 for you (not very impressive though Kazz, I do everything on the cheap!) I need to find my camera though, haven't seen it for a few weeks (I think Charlie has used it somewhere )

As for the mealworms, I didn't think that they sold them in tackle shops, we have 2 avid anglers at work and they have said that the maggots they use aren't suitable for birds as they have colours and other chemical stuffs on them to attract the fish, so I'd stick to Hi Life if I were you

Just go to the garden centre and nick one of those babies! That's what I'd do.

I bet you'll have one by this time next year, if not sooner. As I said earlier - word gets round very quickly once you start putting food down!

Well, I've discarded the fat balls H, just to put your mind at rest that I'mkilling off all the fledglings in the South East area I feel awful though, coz my blue tits will be gone again now They definitely don't like banana, but they're going for the new cheese - the little mouse will too no doubt Just cut up some more grapes for them too, and then had to go back outside to turn them all up the right way (soft side up!) how sad is that then!!

I'm going to get some of that robin food minda and see if mine will feed near me when I'm out there then Mind you, he's definitely not frightened of me, even when I open the back door he never flies off Hope you get yours soon Kazz, word certainly gets around when there's a new cafe open
