Chewing - everything!

Oh dear, Millie - 6 month old springer - has chewed some more of the bannisters. She was only left for 15 mins while I fetched OH from work. Max - 18 month old springer - was with her, she had chewy toys to play with ... HELP!
They can only go in hall, stairs and kitchen and they're never left very long. OH not very happy!
Any suggestions gratefully received, thanks

Have you tried crating whilst you go out, also what she like with kongs ect, if you give her something she has to work for not only do you mentally stimulate them but tire them as well. more experienced peeps will give you some good tip's, luckily our sammy has never chewed anything thank god.

I used to have big problems with one of my dogs, I started leaving the radio on and it worked wonders, so its worth a try.

Thanks, will try the kong and the radio. Max never chewed anything, she's very destructive - especially with wood!

Crating would be one answer ! You need to make it a pleasurable place to be though - not only that but it will stop the dog from hurting himself as well.

Bitter apple spray was the only way I managed to stop my older dog Cara from chewing on wood (cabinet, chair legs ect..) and she was sneaky too, while left for any amount of time she was crated.

Crate training is usually the most effective way to ensure NOTHING can be chewed!

However, otherwise providing her with stuff to do is a good idea.

As has already been suggested, Kongs are good for this - stuffed with something very tasty such as a tin of fish frozen.

Buster Cubes, Tug a jugs and other food toys can also be good. Perhaps feed her morning meal in a food toy whilst you are out... Scatter food, provide a card board box to rip up etc.

Good luck Any pics of your dogs?!
