Sorry, to sort of butt in.
Firstly, I do not agree with the buying of a pet as a fashion item, dogs are not the only victims to the designer pet craze (micro pigs, african pygmy hedgehogs, sugar gliders, etc).

Cockerpoos, labradoodles have all been given "fancy names", but weren't all pedigrees were originally cross breeds at some point? Leonbergers were originally an early St Bernard x Newfoundland x pyrenean mountain dog (could you imagine if they'd tried to abbreviate that name ) The kennel club have just invented a breed standard for the"qualifying" breeds, but the breeds have still changed over time, i.e: the bulldog's facial features have changed dramatically over the years.

I believe that as long as both the owners and breeders are responsible and do not add to the fashionable craze then imo it doesn't really matter what people call them. Dogs (well all animals) should be regarded as a companion and not an accessory!

But thats impossible, any breeder breeding crosses is doing so because there is already a market out there. So they will be adding to the craze.

Just to pick up on a point about these cross breeds not being from good representatives of a breed, I'm sorry, but that's just wrong. There are people out there willing to allow their dogs to cover anything, as long as the money is right

Just had a goldendoodle to stay overnight, she is a cracking dog. I was impressed. Apparently goldie cross labradoodle.

One of my dogs is actually a "Huskita", an Akita x Siberian Husky
I didn't get her from a breeder tho, she was given to us, but she is such a beautiful and loyal dog

I have 3 poodle crosses,a toy poodle, and 3 border collies and all are classed as my pets.
Just love them all no matter if they had 2 heads.
I would have more dog's given the chance but i have been told no more lol.
