What do you think of dogs wearing bells...

I have recently seen quite a few dogs wearing bells on my walks.. It seems quite a new trend round here, or perhaps its the season?

Just wondered what people think.. ??

I think it would drive me crazy listening to it let alone the dog!

I was thinking about getting a cat bell for each of my Pups....but thats cos they are so small I don't know if they are under my feet or not!

Decided against it as it would drive me (and them!) crazy!

The only dog I know who wears a bell is a guide dog and I think she only wears it when she's off lead. Makes sense to me in those circumstances.

I think they serve their purpose. I would be fine with my two wearing them, as they only have collars on on walks. I like the fact that their tag rattles against their semi-check chain part of their collar when we're on a night walk, as I can hear where they are then

I also think they can serve their purpose, my friend used to run a riding stable, and the dog always came along, so he had a bell so the horses could hear where he was. Here people also do it for snakes, as noise is supposed to scare off the snakes.
But when I got a bell for my cat it lasted 5 mins

I used to wear one - does that count

Only so Bailey could tell where I am when we were training, he doesn't need one now - he can recognise my footsteps

Loved the video Murf .... My Pei and my Tibbie play like that!

I had thought of putting a bell on Chloe's collar so I'd know where she was when she was in the long grass. I never got round to it and it doesn't matter now because when she's lost I send my Pei to find her and bring her back home.

M'boi makes me laugh because if Miss Tibbie doesn't do as she's told and follow her back, M'boi grabs her by the scuff of her neck and drags her!

I've heard of lurchers wearing bells for the same reason cats do, to warn their prey that their coming before they get too close, but their taken off when their not out walking.
