A Real Shock and a Sad Day

I let my old ratty boys DRat and Geordie out to wander about while I gave the cage a quick tidy. When I went to get them back in Geordie was cuddled up under my pillow but he was dead

It was a terrible shock as although they were 29 months and had been slowing down over the last couple of months it was really DRat I was most concerned about as his hind legs were very weak. I never thought his brother would go first and it left me in a quandry as they have never been apart and they were also my last two boys so it meant DRat would be alone.

I phoned their breeder in Newcastle and after talking to her decided that the kindest thing to do was to have him pts. It was the best thing to do though as he was too frail to introduce new rats and he would have missed his brother so much both for company and to snuggle up to for warmth.

Must admit I spent a while with them both cuddled up stroking them and crying. I have lost 7 rats over the years but I haven't felt so bad as this since my special Beardie boy Braid died

Sorry ---I know how fond of the little ratties you can become. I am sure you did the right thing,it must be awful to be left alone with no one to cuddle up to.

You take care.

luv
