The "EGO" thing.

would just like to see what you the dogsey people think of the word "EGO" and its loose use.

I see/hear the use of the word "EGO" a lot for a lot of things.

is this word "EGO" just the new insult word to belittle others for doing something you don't approve of?
owning a certain look/type/breed of dog?
dressing in clothes that you might not like?
etc etc etc...

First of all, there is no word ego, it is probably an abbreviation of egotism, a noun meaning the practice of too frequently using the word 'I' or an exagerated love of self or self exaltation.

Another noun is egotist - one always talking of himself

The adjective is egotistical - addicted to egotism

I am lucky in that I don't ever come in contact with people so all these abuses of the English language pass me by

Hmmmm, I find it interesting that apparently the word EGO does not exist. The fact that it is used and is contained in the OED refutes that assertion.

So the word ego, DOES exist, and it DOES have several interpretations.

So if we remove the metaphysical context and the psychological context we are left with the one in general use which refers to the idealisation of oneself. See the various nouns, adjectives, related to this.

Everyone has an ego , its just pride in yourself or your accomplishments

You can get an over inflated ego ... people who think far too highly of themselves or what they can do , when in reality they arent actually as good as they believe they are ... people like that annoy me because half the time they arent willing to listen or take advice
