Meeting Rufus's previous owner

While out walking today a car drew up and a lady got out. I thought she was going to ask for directions but she asked if Rufus used to be Ollie. It turned out that she was his ex! At first Rufus barked at her a bit but then he suddenly seemed to recognise her and was all waggly bottom and happy which I was glad of for the lady's sake. She had had to have a couple of back operations and couldn't cope with him any more but still felt guilty. I told her not to feel guilty and that he was very happy with us. So...what are the chances of that happening? I was glad Rufus was pleased to see her but even more glad when he happily walked away with me!!

awww poor lady, still it must have been reassuring for her to see him well looked after. He obviously is happy with you and wants to be with you

It can be an amazingly small world at times can't it

I bet she shed some tears after that, bless her.

So sad when you have to rehome a dog due to circumstances beyond your control

No she didn't but she has my phone number now so she would be welcome to if she wanted.

Oh gosh - fancy that!
I bet your heart was in your mouth for a bit - I know mine would have been.
Lovely that Rufus was happy to greet her - and wonderful he was happier to walk away with you.
Very sad for the lady that ill health meant she had to give him up - but I bet she was pleased he has such a good life now.

You are very kind.
I gave Mo's past owner my phone number and I really wished I hadn't. I keep getting texts asking me how she is and can she see her. Uh noooooooooooo.
I think her reasons for giving up Mo weren't as genuine as Rufus's owner. She told the shelter she was emigrating, 16 months on she is still here.
Well Mo is ours now and I don't want her reminded of her past life.
But as I say you are obviously kinder than me!!!

Well she has the number in case she comes across any paperwork for him so I wasn't expecting her to be getting in touch just to see how he is.....I know what you mean though, it's like he's mine now and I did feel a bit funny after I had met her in case she had made Rufus worried. However I imagine it's a case of out of sight out of mind for him and probably also for her. I don't think she wants him back.
