Just had Skye at the vet

We have just had to take Skye to the vets as the little theif pinch some dark chocolate. It was not a large amount but with it being a truffle covered in flakes it was hard to tell how much was dark so a vomit vist to the vet was called for. She has been a puking monster for the last ten miuntes, I have had to hold star as he goes deaf when there is sick about and wont listen to leave, I have never heard a dog so vocal while telling me to let him go.

I am a bit annoyed as we are always so careful with chocolate, doublely so with dark.

Yes chocolate is extremely poisonous to dogs. It is the theobromine in chocolate which is poisonous, and the darker the chocolate the more it contains, therefore the more lethal it is. Theobromine affects the central nervous system, as well as the heart.

Signs of chocolate poisoning include vomitting, diarrhoea, increased heart rate, increased urination, restlessness and muscle twitching. This can lead to hyperthermia, seizures, coma and death.

Hope Skye recovers from her ordeal! You did the right thing taking her in
