treats

Hi all

I have been reading with interest the thread about giving your dog raw eggs. As most of you know, i have a 4 month old staff called Otis and he is my first ever dog so i am learning as i go with him.

he is the most adorable little thing and i imagine like most pups is a doggie dustbin. He will eat literally anything you let him. I am trying to be really strict and not give into his whimpers of starvation (yeah right!) but i do give him the odd carrot because he is teething and sometimes some tuna because he loves it.

Is there anything else i can give him that is good for him? His diet is Burns 3 times a day at the moment so need something that is ok to give alongside dried food.

Thanks jodie

you can give him pretty much anything, as long as its not being used as a supplement cos u dont need to supplement a complete food.

carrots are good as u say, apples are good if u take the pips out first.

with indie i chop up lots of fruit and veg and put it in her activity ball so she knocks it round all day tryin to get it out

Otis - we give Loki all sorts of fruit and veg.
Carrot
Apple
Banana
Pear
A tiny bit of pineapple
Tomato
Celery (although he has gone off this now)
Broccoli

Can he have tiny amounts of dried liver with Burns?

Don't forget, giving fruit and veg whole (or chopped up), will not do anything for the dog, as they cannot digest the cellulose.
If you want to feed fruit and veg, and for it to have an effect, it must be puree'd/mashed/cooked etc.

Your dog will not get anything from the fruit or veg....no nutritional value etc.

You know when you eat sweetcorn, and it comes out whole...

It is ok to give it to them, but it will do nothing for them, as their body can't digest it - it can't get any of the goodness out of it

I haqve started baking liver cake for Teagan.
She mainly gets this when we are practicing recall! lol
Otherwise, she has gravy bones, other normal dog biscuits, little nibbles of cheese.
