Are NI's allowed to compete in racing just out of curiosity?

Only purebred KC registered sled dogs are allowed to enter most of the events or Sled dogs provided with a rescue number by a breed specific rescue. I think there are certain classes where other purebred dogs can enter as I know some people have run BC with their mallies.

The reason it is restricted to purebred dogs is to prevent people creating crosses just for racing purposes.

There are different categories for different types of sled dogs. The sprint dogs such as Sibes run in a different class to freighting breeds such as Malamutes and Canadian Eskimo dogs etc. Which is the other reason they need to be purebred - otherwise they do not fit in a category.

Interestingly there was a team of Akitas running at last weeks event, they did OK to. :smt001

No because they are purpose bred. One of the Scottish organisations might allow them - I forget which but there is one which allows any dog to run, most here only allow sled dog breeds apart from ABSA which allows non purpose bred sled dogs to join in if they are registered and assessed but mixed breed sled dogs and breeds bred from sled dogs are not allowed to run.

I took my dog Barney with me to Kielder to watch as long as they are under control.
Its a great experience to see them.
As for Northern Inuit Dogs racing I know a few of my friends do it for pleasure.
