Aww they are gorgeous dogs, absolute stunners. I bet you do get some worried looks though!!

Monty was off the lead on the beach the other day and i took my eye off him for a split second and he'd run up to a couple who had a little girl of about 6 or 7. I ran to retreive the dog and by the time i got there the little girl was in floods of tears so i naturally felt bad and apologised and said that Monty just loved people. This woman had a right go at me and said they hadn't had chance to introduce her kids to dogs and that my dog should be on the lead.

Anyway i just politely said to her that there were a lot of dogs off the lead on the beach that day and that again i was very sorry - the little girl is really crying hard now - and went on my way.

Sure i appreciate that not everyone likes dogs but why is it my fault if her kid has developed a fear of dogs and then they go to a place where there a lot of dogs?!?!

Im going to stick my neck out here, I dont mean to sound critical, but It would be a good idea if you make sure you have a good recall before letting your young lad off round kids,
things can go so quickly wrong, more so if kids start to run scream and wave there arms, some dogs just get to excited with this sort of thing, they then can start grabbing at arms and so on,

The child may have a good reason to be afraid of dogs who knows, but childern are children, they must take priority over dogs.

I think its because I own rotties but my feeling is my dogs should be 100% all of the time,

I know this was an accident but I would learn from it and make sure you get his recall sorted asap.

I appreciate your comments completely and his recall is usually pretty good. I'm always really wary of where i let him off the lead as he is still easily distracted and i know ensuring he is good around kids is one of my main priorities especially as we don't have kids therefore making it harder to socialise him with them.

I just didn't appreciate the way the woman spoke to me and it was really quite unneccessary considering how apologetic i was. I actually felt a bit sorry for the little girl as she's obviously never been given the chance to get used to dogs but then i guess it works both ways - i dont have kids or friends with kids and i guess they don't have dogs or friends with dogs.

there are lots of places that have a complete ban on dogs, so why take a child with a fear of dogs to a dog friendly beach?

when i lived in somerset id meet so many people that were on holi day who were suprised/shocked disgusted that exmoor should have MUD & horse poo on it!!!!!

I guess there are loads of answers to that one, poss they are visiting the area, so dont know the lay of the land, poss they dont have a car and so cant travel to another beach, that said why should they really, most people kind of expect dogs to be under control,

yes some parents go OTT, making any tiny fear there kids have into a massive thing,
I just think as a dog owner, we should all be a bit more tolerant of non dog people, how can we expect them to tolerate us if we dont come and go with them,

Now that did make me giggle, wonder where they thought the exmoor ponys come from

Dogs are for life, not just for Christmas.

So are Turkeys.

I'm wondering if it's not as funny as I thought it was.
