They'll ask you if you are 'needing treatment' and if so I think they put your fees up quite a bit - not sure tho.

I have it through my work. A while back I was diagnosed with PCOS (for those of you who dont know I aint going into it lol). Anyway I waited 9 months to get a scan on the NHS then a further 10 to see a specialist. When I finally did he offered me the same treatment as I had been on previous and not what I needed and my own doctor had hoped he would prescribe.

Anyway to cut a long story short, my work suggested I go through the private healthcare I have (its free for my part anyway) so I did and was taken into the local Nuffield Hospital in Glasgow and seen within a week. Two weeks later I was on the treatment I had waited over 19 months on the NHS not to get and I am thrilled.

If I ever leave here I will be carrying on with my policy. The difference even with waiting times at private hospitals is amazing.

I called my doctor to arrange an appointment and the quickest I can get is the middle of October.

I think I deleted it by mistake instead of editing it.

I'll write it again,

I had private health care through work, and it was good for the relatively minor things.

When I became ill they did all the tests needed to make a diagnosis, then reffered me to the NHS and the small print.

The reason given was that the condition I have is ongoing so they don't cover it. The private companies are how ever happy to provide private facilities for the NHS to pay for to treat this condition.

So my view is you are actually holding an insurance policey, and as we all know insurance companies try to wriggle out of paying if they can, maybe its better to put the money away and use it for treatmetn should you ever need to.
