I have to work with the stuff but mine comes in fresh the day the cattle are slaughtered or else it has been chilled overnight so the smell is minimal.

Azz, if your dog got worms from it them most probably it was lambs tripe not pure Ox tripe. Lambs stinks and it not that nuticious (sp) and it can give worms as sheep graze differently to cattle, I won't touch it for that reason.

Don't quite know what you mean by "fur" but one side of the tripe has a surface that I supose looks like that, we call it the "brush".

If you want to know anything else about tripe then sadly I am an expert on the stuff. (sad)

Not sure if mine is sheep or ox now - I'll have to check...but I have no problems with worms with mine. Not sure why sheep would get more worms than cattle though?

Sheep graze closer to the ground therefore they pick up insects and other buggy things. Cattle only eat the tops of grass like a horse, in fact they eat anything they can get in their mouths. I have to thoroughly check tripes before mincing sometimes removing stones, rusty nails and wire also when they are fed their vitamins it is in a large metal bolt. Generally if the label says "standard" it contains ox and lamb tripe.

What about poor Dozy D working with tripe I think we should set up a rescue party and go and get her out of there and find her a job with creamcakes or chocolate instead :smt038
