mad sayings.....

does anyone ever wonder where some of their everyday sayings come from ?
I mean "daft as a brush" for example - why a brush ?
"as thick as two short planks"
Theres loads of others- would like to hear some regional ones if you have any

(yes Im bored again with nothing to do but do silly posts while i wait to go home )

When me and my friend were little, and his mum was going out, and we wanted to go with her, she'd say "No, i'm only going to the gas board for some eggs".

When we got a bit older, we started saying it to my friends little sister!
Only when I got to be about 15, did I realise the gas board doesn't sell eggs!!
