Setting a password for my pc

Can anyone help me please. I need to know how to set up a password to use my pc coz I don't want my pet sitter's kids coming round and using it (just in case they break it!!) Layman's terms would be great, coz I'm not a whiz on this, but I do know quite a bit (obviously not though, coz I would know how to do it wouldn't I! Lol!)Thanks anyone who can help.

You can just set a screensaver password Aitch. Then, it can be turned on, but the screensaver can kick in straight away. Oh no, wait, that's not practical - how will they turn it off again......as you can see PC literate I am not!
