True if the rat, or other vermin, is dead you have to consider that it may have been poisoned but the main problems are, as stated Lepto and tape worm. So keep the injections and worming up to date and you only need to consider the fact the rat may have been poisoned. Any water can contain Lepto also any grass that is licked it can be caught from vermin and also from the urine of other dogs.

As long as he didnt eat any or much I wouldnt be too worried ,the biggest worry would be poison ,I have some rats in my shed and I dont poison them because I wouldnt want them to suffer ,its a terrible death I've seen poisoned rats still alive before ,but also the danger of one of the dogs or cats eating one ,I have a cage trap to catch them in that dosent harm them

The cats often leave dead mice and shrews outside and Kira will eat them if I'm not quick ,One day I had to pull one out of her mouth it was totally rancid the smell made me nearly sick ,the worse that has happened to her possibly with eating somthing like that has been to be sick
