Breeding without hip scoring?

I've heard so many lame excuses for not hip scoring recently so thought it would be interesting to see other peoples opinions on the subject.

Is it ever acceptable to breed without hip scoring in a breed that is routinely scored? Say for example the ancestors of said dog all had scores below the BMS, would that excuse you from hip scoring?

Certainly not - just becasue the ancestors have acceptable or good hipscores is no reason the offspring will be OK. All you can do is reduce the likely hood of a dog producing pups with bad hips. However - trauma/incorrct diet/over exercise could all contribute to a dog having bad hips. I know these are not genetic causes - however if the dog or breed is predisposed, then breeding from one without knowing is not helping the breed....not sure I am saying this right....Does anyone understand - I am very tired and my brain isn;t working right

ok, rotties used to have high numbers of HD coming through, but since most {good} breeders now score, the number has reduced dramaticaly,

but if breeders now thought, we dont have major issue with HD, I bet it would soon slip back in,

I also have my dogs elbows done when getting hips done its only a few pounds more, this is giving a good insight as to problems with elbows in the breed, more and more breeders are starting to do it

all in all, the rotties are far more sound healthy dogs since breeders took up scoring, long may it continue.

Why not hip score? I see no valid reason not too, even if the dogs pedigree shows good hip scores right down the line, breeders should ALWAYS be trying to reduce the risk of HD IMO.
