Best of luck.........I don't know if this will help or if you are up for it have you considered finding an evening class/college class and offering them the chance to do your wedding cake as a practice/lesson type thing?

Pipedreams in Eton Wick sell all sorts of cake decorations & also the items you need to make them yourself.
m&s & asda do good plain white cakes as well....in sponge & fruit varieties.

Good luck Sheree, it all sounds lovely.
I'm useless with that sort of thing but I wanted to back up what Dachshund said about the icing pens. I tried using them at the weekend. They were murder, very difficult to use and my hands hurt like hell after

Thanks so much ladies

I'm going to still practice on the cake I've got, but if I can get some of those plain ones, as suggested, then I'm going to do one big sunflower on each, (we're having 3), with a bit of foliage and a couple of butterflies...I think that maybe less will be more, if you get my drift.

I don't think I'm going to worry about trying to write anything on it...everyone will know what it's for

Thanks again for all your help

Well I had a bash at decorating the cake this afternoon

I removed the rose and stuff that was already on the cake and did my own thing...a huge sunflower with leaves...I did try the butterfly on it but I thought it looked a bit much..I'll have to have a think about that.

I made the decorations and then painted them with food colouring...I'm assuming when I do it for real I should actually colour the icing before I roll it out so that the colour is more subtle, or can you just paint it like I've done?

Thanks for looking

p.s. I know I'm a messy worker....the proper ones won't have icing sugar all over the bases
