He was so good, had to say!

Sorry but I had to tell you all!

I took my NI to the vet for a health check the other day. He is very naughty (not entirely our fault, we have only had him for five weeks and he is only 7 months old now!)

Anyway, he is generally fairly good on the lead and doesn't pull much, but he isn't very well socialised. He also ALWAYS jumps up and gets over excited at meeting new people, but we have been very patient over the last few weeks trying to teach him that unless four paws are on the floor he gets totally ignored, and he is getting there.

Well we were a little worried that he might get over giddy cos we had to go through a village centre with lots of people to get him to the vets, and I was soooo proud he was brilliant! He didn't even try to jump at anyone even once and was totally focused on just me and my OH although he did give the vets lots of kisses

On the way home a little old lady came up and wanted to love him and asked 'what is it!' lol! She said ooo I've never seen a husky apart from on the telly and I didn't have the heart to tell her otherwise, but she was on sticks and tiny and about 65-70 years and I thought oh nooo he's gonna floor her, but my boy just quietly sat and let her pet him! We also got stopped on the way home by a lovely couple saying what a lovely dog and asking about him, and he just did the same, sat quietly and let them pet him, until we said goodbye and said to him, OK good boy, come on, and he just fell in line by my side.

I know this is meant to be normal behaviour to most people but he is so hyper and has taken so much to get him not to jump up when he meets new people (and he still does but not as much now) I was just so damned proud!

Sorry for the long post but I was busrsting to tell someone!

Shel

Congratulations, I know how proud you must be feeling. The Northern Inuit is a strong willed dog especially a rescue so having him behave like that must of had you brimming with pride.

Thats great news!

I can totally understand why your so pleased, Jess is exactly the same, no matter how hard I try she wants to jump up at people and at 5 months and 21inches floor to shoulder she is getting big!

She is getting less excitable (slowly, very slowly) but still wants to jump up and smother everyone toddler to OAP...

She isnt to bad in town centers though, I think the sheer amount of people overwhelms her... thank goodness.

Hope that his good behaviour continues.

PS. for the pulling issue try a Canny Collar, I have gotten Jess one, its a tad too big at the mo so we cant use it for a few weeks but they are supposed to work wonders!
