Help! New puppy and older dog...

We just picked up our new pup (well I say just we picked her up on Monday)

Here she is:

Anyway,
When we got her home we put her in her crate (she is used to them as she was in one at her old home). We greeted and made a fuss of our older dog but she wasn't interested, she ran straight over to the puppy and sniffed her then she backed off a bit and started shaking and whining is this normal? It's almost as if she is scared of Kira :/ I don't know what to do anymore, she's not really had any other problems with other dogs... Any help and advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hi and firstly what a gorgeous puppy Samson shakes and whines when he can't get to another dog if they are being walked nearby, so maybe the barrier of the crate upset her as she wanted a good sniff but couldn't if that makes any sense

What a lovely pup!

Is your older dog typically ok with other dogs?

Remember that if your older dog has been the only dog, suddenly sharing her space with another dog is a big upheaval for her. It is perfectly normal for her 'act up' and it is all part of the adjustment process.

My elder Labrador was less than thrilled when I added two more dogs to the household. He was a real grump, growling when they come near him and generally doing everything he could to avoid them. A couple of months later they were friends.

Yeah she has always been fine with other dogs, she does sometimes bark and whine if other dogs go past the house but that's about it.
I'm just worried that she'll never take to the puppy.

It's perfectly normal for her to be a bit wary of the new dog, it will take a bit of time but before you know it they'll be best of friends!

We got a new pup about 2 weeks ago and we have 3 other older dogs. They didnt take well to the pup at all but we started to let them in the same room with the pup in the crate so they could see him smell him etc. they cried quite abit because they couldnt get to him. We then introduced them face to face which was abit wary at first but a few days later their inseperable and our two huskys were very against him at the beginning we were really worried, just take your time and itll all be okay

gorgeous pup, best thing is, if you know your older dog wont attack pup, let puppy out of his crate and just let them be, don't make a fuss of any of them, puppy will do his own thing and your older dog will have sneaky sniffs,(watch for small signs even like the nose twitch, dogs don't have to be right next to something to smell it) but I wouldn't let your older dog go in puppys crate cos that his 'safe' place, but just see how they are together supervised of course, your older dog will probably walk away (or run) from puppy if puppy goes towards him to play and he's worried... but just leave them be. patience is the key
