Personally, I would never restrict a dog peeing when and where he likes on HIS walk. I can't understand the need to do this, quite frankly.

On the other point, it's certainly not unusual for dogs to scent-mark territory indoors........ embarassing, though it is....

I do not allow my dogs to urinate on the lead (unless I have given them special permission). When they are on the lead they are on a walk usually somewhere where it is not safe to have them off it.

I certainly do not allow them to mark, there is absolutely no need for this, when I am exercising my dogs it is their muscles I am flexing not their bladder and bowels.

When they are OFF the lead they can pee where and when they like (if it is appropriate to do so).

I have had three males and none have ever cocked their legs inside the houses of others or in the hotels or B & Bs I have ever stayed in.

They know the difference between inside and outside.

Funnily enough, since I have been more strict with Polo over cocking his leg when he is on-lead (I only allow him to cock his leg if I have approached a tree and told him to pee,) he has been far less less leash reactive.
