I would rather my rat terrier be the "alpha" dog because I do not want her to feel ignored, replaced, etc...
Also my new pup tries to keep humping my arm & having all female dogs before I am not sure how to stop it.. He is also very "mouthy". I understand puppies are ALL like that but I am not sure how to teach him not to bite- just to play.... help?!
forget the whole idea of trying to sort out your dog's pecking order, it's down to them.
just make sure they get on nicely, thats all.
so if you little dog becomes overwhelmed/scared of the rough and tumble, help her out by stopping the rough and tumble.
just make sure they play nicely.
so let them play for only a minute or two at a time so they dont get too wound up, keep indoors lines on them so you can take one away.
both dogs should learn time outs.
your terrier would be happy with a place she can go to for some peace.
have you tried crate training?
it isnt the case your terrier will think she is ignored or replaced, it is the case she may just get upset by a big bouncy goon of a boxer.
i assume they are both dog friendly anyway?
did they meet at the centre before coming home?
if another side effect of teachng your boxer to play is excessive play biting and humping, dont 'teach her to play'.
she will already know how to play, you need to teach her impulse control instead
