Static electricity in dog's fur!!

Hi, I am having trouble grooming (if that's the correct term for a scruffy Lurcher )my 6 month old, Myrtle. As sonn as I touch her coat with the comb I/we get a static shock which has made her nervous of being combed. At first I put it down to the comb, but it happens with a wooden handled metal comb too. I think it must be the man-made fibres in her bedding/the carpet/sofa etc causing it. Before I completely renovate the house to remove all man-made fibre products can anyone suggest a way of "earthing" her!
Sorry this sounds so ridiculous, but I don't want her to be petrified of being electrocuted every time I comb her - especially as she is getting more and more feathering as she gets older.
Thanks, Jo & Myrtle

Complete shot in the dark, but you could try standing her on a rubber mat whilst grooming her (and maybe standing on a rubber mat yourself)??

Like I say, a complete stab in the dark...have no idea of the science behind it!

Think if your rub her down with a shammy leather that has been rung out in water you will disperse the static, could try giving her a cotton or wool blanket which may help.

Biogroom actually do an anti static grooming spray. I use it and it works well. My daughter also borrows it for her own hair sometimes.
