Star

Female Hairless Chinese Crested ...10months old in pictures, and now..breed usally stops growing between 6 and 10months..- I like the idea of this section..Even if you only take it as a bit of fun!

Breed Standard ...

General Appearance
A small, active and graceful dog; medium- to fine-boned, smooth hairless body, with hair on feet, head and tail only; or covered with a soft veil of hair.

Characteristics
Two distinct types of this breed; Deer type, racy and fine boned, and Cobby type, heavier in body and bone.

Temperament
Happy, never vicious.

Head and Skull
Slightly rounded and elongated skull. Cheeks cleanly chiselled, lean and flat, tapering into muzzle. Stop slightly pronounced but not extreme. Head smooth, without excess wrinkles. Distance from base of skull to stop equal to distance from stop to tip of nose. Muzzle tapering slightly but never pointed, lean without flews. Nose a prominent feature, narrow in keeping with muzzle. Any colour nose acceptable. Head presenting graceful appearance, with alert expression. Lips tight and thin. An ideal crest begins at the stop and tapers off down neck. Long and flowing crest preferred, but sparse acceptable.

Eyes
So dark as to appear black. Little or no white showing. Medium size, almond in shape. Set wide apart.

Ears
Set low: highest point of base of ear level with outside corner of eye. Large and erect, with or without fringe, except in Powder Puffs where drop ears are permissible.

Mouth
Jaws strong, with perfect, regular scissor bite, i.e. upper teeth closely overlapping lower teeth and set square to the jaws.

Neck
Lean, free from throatiness, long and sloping gracefully into strong shoulders. When moving, carried high and slightly arched.

Forequarters
Shoulders clean, narrow and well laid back. Legs long and slender, set well under body. Elbows held close to body. Pasterns fine, strong, nearly vertical. Toes turned neither in nor out.

Body
Medium to long. Supple. Chest rather broad and deep, not barrel-ribbed. Breast bone not prominent. Brisket extending to elbows; moderate tuck-up.

Hindquarters
Rump well rounded and muscular, loins taut, stifles firm and long, sweeping smoothly into the well let down hocks. Angulation of the rear limbs must be such as to produce a level back. Hind legs set wide apart.

Feet
Extended hare-foot, narrow and long. Nails any colour, moderately long. Socks ideally confined to toes, but not extending above top of pastern. Feet turning neither in nor out.

Tail
Set high, carried up or out when in motion. Long and tapering, fairly straight, not curled or twisted to either side, falling naturally when at rest. Plume long and flowing, confined to lower two-thirds of tail. Sparse plume acceptable.

Gait/Movement
Long, flowing and elegant with good reach and plenty of drive.

Coat
No large patches of hair anywhere on body. Skin fine-grained, smooth, warm to the touch. In Powder Puffs coat consists of an undercoat with soft veil of long hair, veil coat a feature.

Colour
Any colour or combination of colours.

Size
Ideal height in dogs: 28-33 cms (11-13 ins) at withers; bitches: 23-30 cms (9-12 ins) at withers. Weight varies considerably, but should not be over 5.4 kgs (12 lbs).

Faults
Any departure from the foregoing points should be considered a fault and the seriousness with which the fault should be regarded should be in exact proportion to its degree and its effect upon the health and welfare of the dog.

She has a tempermant to die for! Like they all should, she loves the ring and i love handling her.
She has ful dentition, and a correct scissor bite..
She has great movement and keeps her level topline on the move.
She is doing well in the ring, and in our eyes we have improved on her sire and dam..
Opinions welcome!

I'm in love! She is gorgeous, never thought I would say that about another breed. First time I ever saw one was in Dublin a lot of years ago - such quiet little dogs, bigger than I had imagined them to be but sturdy and so calm. Maybe some day..............

I have to ask, are they expensive? How are they with bigger dogs? How much care on a daily basis do they need? Can you post a pic of your PP please?

They can be expenisve, but then that depends on where you go i suspose, looking around on free add sites i see pups for double the price of what my mum charges and our dogs are tested for PLL, PRA and Glaucoma and we will be looking at starting the Optigene testing to..
Hairless go for more than the puffs, and some breeders charge different prices for sex...I have seen some hairless females go for £1500 that makes me want to pass out LOL

We have an Italian Spinone and the ones that have been brought up with him are fine, the rescues we have can be funny but they had never meet any dog other than crested before we took them on.

with the hairless you will get told different things some say bath them daily, some say every other day and some say 3 or 4 times a week which is what we do... but they have cream put on daily to keep the skin nice an moist.
brushing wise for a true hairless is as often or little as you like, there hair is like people hair yet alot thinner and doesnt mate!
With a hairy hairless you will need to brush the crest, tail and feet often and the hair is thicker and is likely to mate.
they also need there body and face shaving often..with a true hairless face needs shaving when it grows long enough to reach the eyes, or if you perfere it clipped when ever the stubble comes back.

Puffs need brushing at least 4/5 times a week to keep the mates away, if you do it every night or other night it will take about 5mins and keep the mates out.
There faces need clipping in the same style as a poodle and about as often to, the hair on a puffs face is alot thicker than that of a hairless, of course.

walking wise ours get a run over the feild every day for an hour at least..they will have as much excersise as you will give or as little.
There quite clever little dogs, and always wanting to please you.
I have found there the type of dog that wil attach them selves to one person in a house hold and that will stick through out its life!

ours are fed a raw diet, of bones and meat in the morning, then a little bowl of tripe at night and do very well on it.

am just off to photo bucket to get some pictures of my Karma up, she is my black and white puff .. she got to big for the showing ring, but is a muched love pet all the same.
will be back in a tinkle..hope i have helped a little, and if there is anything else you want to know please ask

Awh she is gorgeous too! Now I am really torn, how could you resist a wee face like that! I love her colouring. From what you have said they could be termed as high maintenance, then again once you get used to it, you probably dont think that much of it. Do you always get the two coats in a litter? It is a coat that is clipped ? I used to have dogs that needed stripped, I know the two are vastly different but it would be in your own interests to learn the "art" and less stress on your dog too I would think. It always used to annoy me - people who got their dog clipped when it should have been stripped.

I really dont know who is the nicest now - Star or Karma. They are both beautiful. Thanks so much for sharing their photos.

I thought they might be round that price mark. I may start saving.........!
