My hens

Thought you might like to see our 4 hens, so I took some photo's today!
Their names are Speckeldy, Moody, Broody and Ring Neck (because she has a ring of white feathers on her neck, no other reason!)

They are ever so funny to watch sometimes and we haven't bought eggs since we got them last March!

lovely girls

I wouldnt be without mine - they are so entertaining, and such characters!

there is something very special about checking for eggs two or three times a day - like having your own little treasure hunt

I had three exactly like that when I lived in Essex, plus three of the black version. I had never owned or been near hens before and I found them fascinating. Each had her own character and wing clipping was always action packed and hazardous!
Getting them in at dusk wasn't too bad apart from one of the black ones who led me a merry dance each time so she was called Roadrunner!
I am hoping to have some again when I have a permanent address.

Glad you all like them!

I used to be petrified of chickens, as when I was little my Gran's cockeral attacked me - it kicked me from behind, then riped my t-shirt and pecked my back to pieces. She had some hens too, my favourite was Blackie which funnily enough was black! She was a little one, and really friendly but sadly after the cockeral I couldn't go near her.

I solved the problem when I met Kev, as his Mum and step-dad used to keep loads and I wanted to be able to help Kev look after them when they went way! I conquered my fear when I was pregnant with Greg - I wanted to be able to be near them for him, so I found some braveness and after a few weeks was able to go in their enclosure, not long after that I stroked one!

Now there is no fear at all, I go in their run, I pick them up I will even turf Broody off her nest when the need arises!

He he that second one made me laugh out loud!

Bit like that film Madagascar with the penguins - "Smile and wave boys, smile and wave!"

Great pics!
