Blue / Gree Algae - lake in delamere, Cheshire

Hello,

My dog had been swimming in a cleaner part of the lake on saturday... we have just discovered that signs have been erected around the lake warning of the algae and its harmful effects.

Can anyone offer any advice?

My dog is a 14 month old choc lab and is off food this am and has had a bit of the runs on sunday.

Hello Matt I would telephone and check with your vet in case some medication is necessary.

I would ring your vet, just to be on the safe side.

We were at Delamere the Saturday before last, both dogs went swimming, well away from the algae and they're ok, so fingers crossed yours will be too.

I go to Delamere Forest every day (365). If you mean the big lake it is always full of scum and algae which collects near the shoreline. I never let my dog go in any of the stagnant water, only the streams. I would take him to the vet soon as possible for a check up.

When I lived in Knutsford, Cheshire, there were permanent notices around the mere warning of blue-green algae.

I kept mine out, but some people encouraged their dogs to swim every day, with no ill effects.

Probably better the check with your vet - hope he's fine again soon.
