Dogs sighing

Just wondered if anyone knows or can clarify this please. We had been for an hour n half walk, come back had breakfast n my dog went to settle down on the sofa. A friend called round and after usual greetings she(dog) settled back down and gave a heavy sigh, my friend said "oh she's fed up isn't she". I always thought that dogs sighing was a sign of contentment
Many thanks
H

Thankyou, I couldn't imagine she was fed up after a good walk n food(or disgusted/unhappy at a friendly visitor), i think a dog sigh n human sigh must mean different thing/s

Mine seem to do it when they are settling down, and dont appear to be unhappy, just chilled.

Really it is just a big exhale of air. I will admit I do tend to do it myself when getting into bed... The dog often copies which makes me giggle. I don't think either of us are fed up, just content to settle down to a good nights sleep. I think in a dog if they were fed up/bored/disgruntled they would show it a bit better eg chewing up the furniture, mauling your visitor, yapping, whining (that's what my lad does) or pestering you for attention

I think it depends. Rupert sighs when settling down for the night or after a good play or training session or something. I don't think that's discontent or being fed up. However, he'll also sigh if he's trying to get me to play or something and I'm busy and tell him to go and lie down. Then he'll stalk off and throw himself down on the floor with a huge hard done by sigh
