What's a biddable dog ???

This term has irritated me ever since I read a query in My Dog Mag from a young couple with 2 kids who wanted a "biddable " dog. They claimed they only had time for one 20 minute walk per day, wanted a placid dog, good with kids, etc.etc. I think one of the replies from the " experts" was- re-consider why you want a dog and whether you really have enough time and interest to give the dog the attention, training and exercise it may need regardless of breed.
Whats your definition of "biddable " ??

I am curious now too, never heard that term before.

I think the expert in the mag is right, it dosent sound like they have too much time to evote to the dog with such a busy life style.

Biddable: willing to carry out the orders or wishes of another without protest; "too acquiescent to challenge authority"; "a gentle and biddable soul"; "children compliant with the parental will"

I've always seen it to mean eager to please, obedient etc

I have used the term myself and always thought it to mean willing and obedient.

In Sheepdog terminology it is in essence a dog that is easy to work with & willing to do what it is directed to do-not necessary placid nor quiet BTW

Biddable means easily led or obedient, and yes we'd all like one of those!

But you don't get one of those without putting in the work, and if they've only got time for one walk a day they won't have time to train.

Sounds like they are the sort of people who think dogs come ready trained, make no mess, need little attention etc.... the sort of people who put the dogs in rescue when they realise its not like that.

Personally I'm all for obedient, but I like a bit of cheekiness too, gives em character

Ah Kye, but NI's can be very biddable. Just takes time. My Inca knows her routines and will often do the command before I've asked her (smartypants that she is) as in 'I have been out for my night time tiddle, I will now go straight to sit in my basket so you may give me my bedtime biscuit'
