Did you get copies of all the health tests your pups parents had?

They list...

Springers
Cockers
Dalmations
German Shepherds
Labradors
Miniature Poodles

As well as

Spoodles
Labradoodles
Cockerpoos

Having looked at their website I would say its a commercialised dog breeding business...doesnt' make it any better!!

By the way...puppy farm doesn't actually mean FARM..

I would expect a Breeder to be dealing with one or 2 breeds at most, and building up their own `line`. And offering to take back pups if things went wrong. And taking an active role in the promotion of their breed.
I don`t see how anyone with 9 breeds or types could possibly be in the business of improving a breed. I assume they`ve got a bitch of each breed is all - with the poor girls who can produce an `oodle or `poo serving double duty.

I would steer clear of anyone breeding more than two different breeds. Beyond this I don't see how someone could know enough about each breed to have their best interests at heart.

My puppy has not come from a 'farm'. Most of these places won't let you see the mother or the father, they don't have any paperwork for any dogs, they will not allow you to bring the dog back if there is found to be something wrong with it within 3 days of purchase, and these places tend to be very dirty and isolated.
This place was clean, the dogs in good condition, seen both mum and dad, i had a look inside her house and seen other puppies, everything seems to be fine. She was a lovely lady who goes by the name of risdon farm - puppy farms do not advertise big, and we had a good lengthy discussion before we had him - i don't think she had anything to hide, unlike puppy farms.
He probably did miss out on some socializing hence being a little scared, but im sure he will come out of it and he is presently going to puppy classes to help with the all round situation.
Anyone who breeds 9 different breeds and cross breeds, doesn't do anything with the dogs (shows, works them, etc.) and only minimumly health tests (I'm sure German Shepherds should be tested for more than just hips, and Labs should be elbow scored and Optigen tested) probably doesn't have the best intentions. Sadly people like this are breeding for financial gain.

The 'puppy farms' you describe are the worst of the worst. I agree that the place you got your pup isn't comparable to that, but they are most definitely backyard breeders producing pups for nothing but money. Because these people breed for money, they are not inclined to put in the effort when it comes to socializing the pups in those critical first 8 weeks. Not only that, but the dams temperament is unlikely to play a factor in whether she is bred or not (the biggest factor in temperament is genetic!). Thus, you end up with a pup that is very wary and nervous.

Is your doggy getting more confident now? Sorry I don't know it's name
I'm sure now that you are able to socialise it and working toward it's training.
Have you posted any pictures for us to see?

Well the GSDs go back to an unscored male & a bitch with a 24 hip score who should not have been bred from ! The only health tests done on the GSDs is hip scoring, no elbows scored at all The same goes for the Labrador retriever stud dog

None on the Dalmatians appear to be hip or elbow scored

Your puppy should have come with the KC registration & also it BAER test results & a copy of both parents hip, elbow & BAER test results

Risdon Farm kennels that breed multiple breeds & crossbreeds it shouts Run A Mile to me !!!

He is slowly getting more confident, especially when he knows he gets treats from people
He is going to puppy classes which he enjoyed his first session alot.
I know alot of you are trying to tell me that i got him from the wrong buisness kind, but i was satisfied with the place, had all the documents i needed, seen parents and papers etc, and he is a lovely dog, apart from being a little nervous/shy, but he is on his way to being better and cheekier, and aslong as he has a good life from now on, with proper care and attention which he is sure to get, then as far as im concerned, everything is fine.
I will never encourage these farms that don't breed healthy, clean puppies with no vaccs, papers etc.

You are obviously working hard to help him and I'm sure with time he will get a lot better. It's just sad that you had issues to deal with as soon as you got your puppy

I wouldn't want an 8 week old puppy to have been vaccinated by the breeder, I notice they have a link to a puppy selling site(one that isn't up & running at the moment.

Sorry but these people are puppy farmers that are Local Authority licensed.

Any one who just breeds F1 crossbreeds is in it simply for the money

All the breeding dogs should be fully health tested, DNA & clinical tests should be done for all known health conditions. It's not just the parents that need BAER testing in Dalmatians it's the puppies as well. Is your puppy BAER tested ? if he isn't his hearing could be why he is nervous
